What is Daytrana?
Long-acting Daytrana is the only ADHD patch. It provides the lasting symptom relief your child needs, with the flexibility they need, too.*
You know your child's day-to-day schedule better than anyone. With the removable Daytrana patch, you can work with your doctor to create a treatment plan that fits your child's unique routine. Whether they're at school or at an after-school activity, doing their homework or spending time with the family, Daytrana is proven to control symptoms of ADHD throughout the day. Clinical testing showed significant improvement in symptoms, such as inattention and hyperactive or impulsive behavior. Parents reported improvement in symptom control in the morning and afternoon.
And because Daytrana is a patch, you can remove it early to help manage late-day side effects your child may experience, like loss of appetite or trouble sleeping. Be sure to consult your doctor about whether early removal of the patch is right for your child.
*Daytrana® (methylphenidate transdermal system) provides long-lasting symptom control for up to 10 hours when worn for 9 hours—the recommended maximum wear time. Once applied, the patch starts to work in 2 hours. The effects can continue for up to 3 hours after removal. Consult your doctor about early removal of the patch.
With the full 9-hour wear time, 26% of children and adolescents experience some loss of appetite and 13% of children and 6% of adolescents experienced some trouble sleeping.
How Daytrana works
Because Daytrana is a patch, it delivers medicine in a different way to treat the symptoms of ADHD.
Unlike oral treatments, the Daytrana patch effectively delivers medicine through the skin and into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive tract. Because Daytrana is not processed through the stomach, you can apply the patch when your child's stomach is full or before they have eaten, without affecting the absorption of medicine. The patch is designed to release medication continuously until it is removed, at the recommended 9-hour maximum wear time or earlier. The level of medication in the bloodstream smoothly rises when the patch is applied and gradually descends when the patch is removed.
You should apply the patch 2 hours before the full effect is need. To help with symptom management during the early morning routine, you may consider applying the patch while your child is still sleeping. The benefits of the medication can continue for up to 3 hours after removal.

Side effects of Daytrana
There are potential side effects to consider before choosing Daytrana for your child.
Methylphenidate, the medicine in Daytrana, is a mild irritant that is expected to cause skin redness where the patch is applied. Redness should not be confused with a rash or allergic reaction. To minimize potential skin side effects, use the Daytrana patch as prescribed and remember to alternate the hip where the patch is applied each day. Try not to use the same application site on either hip for several days.
In clinical studies, the most common side effects seen when using the Daytrana patch include skin problems where you apply Daytrana (redness, small bumps, itching), poor appetite, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, weight loss, tics, trouble sleeping, mood swings, and dizziness. In most cases, irritation disappeared within 24 hours
