Children Come In Different Sizes. Daytrana Does, Too.
The once-a-day Daytrana® patch comes in four sizes to help manage the symptoms of ADHD in children ages 6-17. Each size delivers a different dosage strength. The bigger the patch, the higher the possible dose.
The suggested starting dose is 10 mg for both patients new to methylphenidate and for patients switching from another ADHD medication. To achieve the right results, the dosage may need to be gradually increased. Your child can wear the once-a-day Daytrana patch when they need it and take it off when they don't.* Work with your child's doctor to decide the appropriate time to apply and remove the patch once a day. Try to keep track of any late-day side effects such as decreased appetite or trouble sleeping, and report them to your doctor. Together, you and your child's doctor will find the right dose to help your child get the most out of the Daytrana patch.
Unlike ADHD pills or tablets that are processed through the stomach, the Daytrana patch delivers medicine into your child's system through the skin so the medicine in Daytrana stops being delivered immediately after you take off the patch and blood levels start to fall. Effects of Daytrana should decrease over time, with the benefits still seen 2 to 3 hours after wear times of 4 to 9 hours, respectively. Important: the Daytrana patch shouldn't be worn longer than 9 hours.
*Daytrana should only be used once a day and worn for no more than 9 hours.
